Our family have been inspired for over thirty one years by the medicinal properties of African indigenous flora.

Having farmed in the Eastern Highlands of Manicaland Zimbabwe for many years-  we built an eco sanctuary for trees and birds- studing and holding workshops to promote an interest in the study of indigenous flora. The continent's flora have unique values and a  'medicine cabinet' of different herbs and trees  that offer some of the most amazing properties.

Unfortunately, we had to leave our farm in Zimbabwe, and find a peaceful haven in the Robertson Valley of  South Africa in 2005.

Our  insperation for a unique range using the  Kigelia (sausage tree tincture) came from our Irish chemist - Mr. Calhoun - who had for years made a simple formula with the Kigelia which was used by our grandfather who suffered with skin cancer. We would take the 'sausages" (gourds) in for him to make the 'mootie' for Granpa and it worked so well-The Kigelia cream would calm his skin almost within a few days. The formula was based on an aqueous and petroleum base.

However we wanted something using more natural raw base product. Harvesting our own Kigelia and making a Kigelia extract and incorprating that into pure extra virgin olive oil was the initual plan. 

Now that we found ourselves in the heart of olive country, it made sense to experiment with Olive Oil from Olyfberg being the best in the area.

Encouraging and supporting the sustainable community projects of Phytotrade-we joined them with the dream of "value adding" the base products from the Beautiful African Indigenous Trees and help the rural folk sustain a living from cropping and tending the trees in the rural areas.

The Olive Workshop was born in early 2006.
